Mahindra XEV 9S launched at Rs 19.95 lakh: Top variant claimed to rival SUVs priced at Rs 80 lakh

Mahindra has launched the XEV 9S in India at a starting price of Rs 19.95 lakh, ex-showroom. This model marks the entry into the three-row electric SUV sector. Essentially, the XEV 9S is the EV counterpart of the XUV700, but comes with a number of enhancements and changes. Test drives will begin from December 5, while bookings will open on January 14, followed by deliveries from January 23, 2026.

Mahindra XEV 9S: Main Details

The XEV 9S will be offered with three battery pack options: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. Power outputs range from 228 bhp with a 59 kWh unit to 241 bhp with the new 70 kWh setup, while the largest 79kWh pack delivers 282 bhp. All three variants produce 380 Nm of torque, and Mahindra claims a 0-100 kmph acceleration of seven seconds, which puts the top-spec variant in the performance territory of some premium electric SUVs.In terms of styling, the On the sides, the model also features aero-optimized wheels and roof rails. Inside, you get a three-screen dashboard layout, additional screens for second-row passengers, a panoramic sunroof, a Harman Kardon audio system, powered tailgate, ambient lighting, and reclining second-row seats.

On the safety front, the SUV offers seven airbags, including a knee airbag, Level 2+ ADAS, brake-by-wire, blind view monitoring and intelligent emergency braking. Higher variants get Mahindra’s Secure360 Pro, which is a live vehicle monitoring system that can be accessed through a connected app.Prices for the XEV 9S range from Rs 19.95 lakh for the entry-level 59 kWh variant to Rs 29.45 lakh for the top-spec Pack Three Above model. During the presentation, Mahindra positioned this fully loaded version as a rival to a luxury electric SUV priced around Rs 80 lakh, highlighting the combination of performance, space and features. The top-spec model has a 79 kWh battery, 282 bhp, 7-seater layout, 394 liters of boot space, 150-litre trunk, 10.9-metre turning circle and a top speed of 200 kmph. Mahindra also showcased features like AR HUD, advanced ADAS with multiple radars, dynamic ambient lighting, ventilated second row and an in-cabin camera that supports live monitoring.
