Mahindra XEV 9S vs Tata Harrier EV: Comparison of range, battery options and more

Mahindra has launched the XEV 9S, the brand’s first three-row electric SUV in India. Although it has no direct competitors in this body style, it falls in the same price bracket as two-row electric SUVs including the Tata Harrier EV. Here’s a quick look at how it stacks up against the Harrier EV.

The XEV 9S is 4,737 mm long, 1,900 mm wide and 1,747 mm high. Meanwhile, the Harrier EV is a five-seater, measures 4,607 mm in length, 2,132 mm in width, 1,740 mm in height and has a wheelbase of 2,741 mm.

Tata offers the Harrier EV with two lithium-ion battery options: 65 kWh and 75 kWh. The smaller 65 kWh pack is limited to rear-wheel drive setups and offers 238 hp, while the larger 75 kWh unit supports both RWD and AWD configurations. In AWD form, power goes up to 313 hp, with torque peaking at 504 Nm. The 65 kWh promises a range of 538 km, and the 75 kWh version extends this to 627 km. Fast charging from 20-80% with a 100kW charger takes about 25 minutes.Mahindra has three battery pack options for the XEV 9S: 59 kWh, 70 kWh and 79 kWh. Power output varies with each pack: 231 hp, 245 hp and 285 hp respectively, but all variants produce 380 Nm of torque. Depending on the battery, the XEV 9S promises a range of 521 km, 600 km or 679 km.

Comparing the price bands, the XEV 9S price starts at Rs 19.95 lakh and goes up to Rs 29.45 lakh, ex-showroom. The Tata Harrier EV is priced between Rs 21.49 lakh and Rs 28.99 lakh, which puts both the SUVs in the same territory for buyers evaluating long-range electric options.
